Morning Psalm

Oratio (prayer)
Lord, You send forth Your Word upon the earth. Send Your Holy Spirit as I pray Psalm 147 this morning, that I may praise You for Your Word and Your gifts in Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Meditatio (meditation)
Psalm 147:12-20
12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
13For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
14He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
15He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.
16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
17He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
18He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
19He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
20He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.
Consider even rereading in another translation.

You might read the whole reading slowly, aloud, more than once.
Consider this verse, for example:
“He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.” (Psalm 147:15)
What other lines speak to you?
The Law Before God's power we are small: "who can stand before his cold?" (v. 17). He sends snow and ice and melts them again at a word. We cannot control the seasons, and we cannot keep His Word on our own either.
The Gospel Yet this mighty God gives His Word as a gift: "He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel" (v. 19). His Word is not far off. It "runneth very swiftly" (v. 15) to you, and in Christ the Word became flesh for you. "He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat" (v. 14), and He feeds you still with the Bread of Life.
Prayer Lord, I confess that I have taken Your Word and Your gifts for granted. Forgive me for Jesus' sake. Fill me with Your Word, and give me Your peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Tentatio (trial)
Cold seasons come, in the weather and in life. Under trial it may help to notice that the same God who sends the frost also "sendeth out his word, and melteth them" (v. 18). No winter lasts forever under His hand.
Prayer Lord, when my heart feels cold, send Your Word to warm it. Give me peace and feed me today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
